Why an olive branch?
Ask and you shall receive
One of my favorite things to do during the summer months is get up with the sun and spend time alone reading, journaling, and meditating with my morning coffee. So even on our family vacation, I wanted to keep my morning ritual alive... with the amazing addition of the Atlantic ocean.
One of those mornings I had an inkling to meditate with the intention of learning what my personal brand should be. I'd been feeling a major shift happening to me personally, and I knew that would ultimately be reflected in my business. I yearned for clarity and new direction.
To my surprise, that gorgeous summer morning as I sat with the sun, I was shown a vision of an olive branch. I quickly googled all of the symbolic meanings, and goosebumps covered my body. I couldn’t believe that one little twig could symbolize so many facets of me:
“Fossil evidence indicates the olive tree had its origins some 20–40 million years ago in the Oligocene, in what is now corresponding to Italy and the eastern Mediterranean Basin.”
My lineage hails from Calabria and Palermo, Sicily, so my upbringing was authentically Italian. Large, loud, delicious family dinners after church on Sunday were (and still are!) filled with enough love to last a million lifetimes.
“Olives have been a staple for civilization after civilization as a rich source of nutrition and medicine. They’re low in toxins, sugar and carbs, and they rival avocados as one of the best plant sources of fat. They reduce inflammation, fight cancer, increase testosterone synthesis, and speed up wound healing.”
Olive oil is one of my main food groups! I also follow a high(ish) fat, low carb diet to keep my own inflammation down and my brain high-functioning. Busy moms need all the help we can get!
“David said, ‘But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever’ (Psalm 52:8). A green, virile, vigorous olive tree in the house of God represents one who is vigorous and zealous in righteousness, dwelling close to God in fruitful companionship and unity.”
“Long before the ancient Greeks used the olive branch as a symbol of peace and victory, the Bible recorded that the dove brought an olive branch to the ark as a message that the Great Flood had ended.”
Practicing spirituality, mindfulness, and personal development is a HUGE aspect of my life, one that influences every other part of my life.
“The olive is an ancient symbol meaning ‘let us make peace’ and the willingness to bring conflict to a conclusion.”
Sitting with this for a few minutes is what really moved me to full-body goosebumps. The crux of my personal evolution happened when I finally realized that I needed to end my inner conflict, that I needed to make peace with myself, my past, my shadow side and learn to love myself unconditionally. This, I believe, is how we shatter glass ceilings... by finally healing ourselves from the inside out.
